Check out my most recent discovery, Phat Fiber. Phat Fiber is a mystery box of fancy yarns and yarn goodies. Here’s the deal as far as I can tell so far. Phat Fiber picks a theme for each month. Then their contributors send in samples that go along with that theme. These could be handspun yarn, handpainted yarn, handpainted roving, stitch markers, etc. Basically if someone who works with yarn might love it, it might be sent in. Then Phat Fiber divides these samples into individual boxes that fall into one of three categories. Fluff, for people who love roving. Stitches, for people who love yarn. And Mixed, for people who love it all!
Then, once a month, at a time and day that is released by email a few days prior, the boxes go on sale. They call it a box drop. Luckily there are two drops on sale day because these things literally sell out in seconds. With that kind of hype I had to see what was in those boxes!
This month was my first time trying, but I managed to get a box at the evening drop. It just arrived today (I bought it on Saturday so it got here pretty fast!)
The June theme was Ice Cream Social so I was expecting whatever was in the box to be all kinds of colorful and I wasn’t the least bit disappointed! (The box was actually much prettier than this when I opened it, but I was so excited I dove right in and forgot to take a picture first.) I received 3 ice cream cone stitch markers, 1 box of roving, and more mini skeins than I can believe. All the yarn is so beautiful and it’s individually labeled so you know what it’s made of, the colorway, and where to go to buy more.
There are coupon codes on most of the tags that can be used at the contributors’ individual Etsy shops. There were also some extra little treats like tea and Creme Savers (yum!).
The box itself is $36 and that includes shipping. I highly recommend checking it out. If you want to know even more you can check out the Phat Fiber website, or their group on Ravelry. I will definitely be trying to get another box at future drops.
Also, if you see anything in the picture you’d like to know more about or get a closer look at just leave me a comment here or on my Facebook page and I’d be happy to help you out!
