So although I promised a lot more posts it appears I didn’t quite deliver. It turns out I had enough energy to accomplish some tasks, just not enough to write about them. I thought I’d quickly share one of the things I managed to get done over the past few weeks, the deck.
Our back deck was grimy and disgusting. It certainly hadn’t been cleaned since my husband bought the house, and my guess would be the previous owners hadn’t done it either. A year ago I bought a deck cleaner solution and application spray thingy (yes, I said a year, and yes, I believe the technical term is thingy) with the best of intentions and then stored them in the garage. For a year.
Here are some pictures to give you an idea of what the deck looked like. unfortunately I took these as a last minute thought right before I got started and the lighting doesn’t do the grime justice.
You can see my old, ugly patio set in that last pic. It was looking about as sad as the deck itself. Well it took two full afternoons and evenings of work, but I finally cleaned the deck! Frankly I was amazed that I didn’t break out in some kind of rash afterwards between the chemicals and all that nastiness being blasted back at me from the power washing. It still needs further cleaning (the areas that received two full applications are spotless) but there was no way to get that done at the moment. We are probably going to have to hire a company to clean it once more and stain it, but at least it’s usable again.

- If you look at the area under the stair railing you can see a good before and after since I missed that spot.
We were so happy with the difference in the deck we treated ourselves to a new patio set! (From Big Lots for $200, nothing crazy.) Then my husband installed a baby gate so our little one could freely enjoy walking around out there without tumbling down the stairs. (Seriously one of my biggest fears.)
