Baby Blanket and Rattle

My good friend Kate recently had a baby and I thought I’d share a couple of things that I made for her. First is the Spiral Baby Blanket. I found the pattern here and really loved how unique it is. Brian has made numerous requests that I make another one for us because he thinks it’s so cool. The pattern is so fun and easy that I just might! Since Kate’s nursery theme is giraffes I also made a little giraffe rattle. I found the pattern on Pinterest, but here is a direct link. I used blue and green flannel fabric and some soft blue and green ribbon for the mane. The tail is rick rack and adds a little texture. I repurposed a small rattle from another toy and viola, cute giraffe rattle.   I fell so in love with this soft, little giraffe that I became a little worried I … Continue reading

Crazy Fabric Haul

I’ve recently started teaching knitting and crocheting classes at the local Joann Fabrics craft store. It’s a great fit since I love teaching and crafting. The one main downfall is doing this job requires me to frequently enter the store, and that typically ends up costing me money. I’ve only taught 2 classes so far and was very proud of myself to have left empty-handed both times. Today, however, was a completely different story. I only went in to drop of some samples for upcoming classes initially. Then I decided to see if a fabric I’ve been wanting is on sale (it was), then I decided to check out the remnants (uh-oh). This is what I ended up leaving the store with.  In case you were wondering exactly what’s there, here’s a breakdown. 11 fleece remnants (ranging from about .5/yard to 1.4/yards), 2 minky dot remnants, 6 assorted cotton pattern remnants, 4 fleece … Continue reading

Finding Center

Due to a myriad of emotional events in both my, and some very close friends’, lives combined with some nasty medication side effect drama I have not only not been posting here, but have barely been present in my own life. I’m hoping that I can turn it all around starting this weekend. I finally have the energy to relax. (If that makes any sense at all) You see, when I’m exhausted I don’t get much done, but I don’t enjoy my down time. Although today I have a list of things that need to get accomplished that’s a mile long, I gave myself permission to do almost none of it. Instead I spent most of the day in my craft room learning to quilt, and I must say, this is the best I’ve felt in months! Crafting is very therapeutic for me. It centers me in a way nothing else does. So in … Continue reading

Drugs

The big day of the Wednesday night get together at my house finally came. Nobody ran out screaming, horrified by clutter, so it was definitely a success. I’m really so glad I put so much effort into getting the house ready because although things are still far from perfect, I was able to relax and enjoy my friends. As an added bonus it allowed me to finally show off some of the work I’d done painting and decorating over the last year or so. Which in turn motivated me even more to keep going with everything. (Hooray for motivation!) Even with all the work I’d put in over the last couple of weeks to get ready I almost had to cancel the whole thing because of an almost complete inability to sleep over the last week. As the name of this blog would suggest, I suffer from bipolar disorder and I am … Continue reading
